In the tradition of the notoriously gritty 42nd Street theaters of the 1980s, and their wild and vocal audiences, TURBO HAÜS and BEAUS BREWERY brings you GRIND HAÜS, our monthly celebration of genre cinema! Programmed and hosted by Justin Henry Langlois (Associate Programmer for the Fantasia Film Festival with an MA in Film from Concordia) and local heartthrob Alex Cartier (Turbo Haüs, Hashed Out)!
This month: a Japanese double feauture, HAUSU and WILD ZERO!
Nobuhiko Ôbayashi's HAUSU (House) [1977].
In an effort to avoid spending time with her father and his creepy new lover, young Gorgeous (Kimiko Ikegami) resolves to visit her aunt's remote mansion. With six of her closest friends in tow Gorgeous arrives at the estate, where supernatural events occur almost immediately. A severed head takes flight, household appliances come to life and a portrait of a cat seems to contain an evil spirit!
Tetsuro Takeuchi's WILD ZERO [1999].
Ace, a rockabilly fan who really wants to be cool, is on his way to see his favorite rock group, Guitar Wolf, when aliens invade the earth and people start returning to life as flesh-eating zombies! Enlisting the help of Guitar Wolf, Ace and the members of the band face a horde of blood-thirsty zombies ready to tear them apart!
There'll be popcorn and delicious BEAUS beer on tap!
