TURBO TALK No. 5 - I Can't Believe That's Your Job: Where Technology, Creativity, Employment, and Disbelief Meet
You’ve heard about the Silicon Valley tech zone, you’ve heard of factory-esque call centres, and you’ve also heard of Andy Warhol’s art factory. But what happens when you combine those three things in different measures and end up with a job description so new that “new” doesn’t do it justice? It’d be easier to guess after listening to these three 30-minute talks delivered at Turbo Haus by exceptional Montrealers. Free for NBCA members, $5 for non-members. Tuesday June 28, doors at 7:30 PM, talks at 8-10 PM, and it’s at 5011 Rue Notre-Dame Ouest.
AMY JOHNSON (Breather, breather.com) uses her esteemed visual skills to design attractive and relaxing spaces in Montreal, NYC, Boston, San Francisco, etc. In turn, you can short-term rent those spaces via superphone app when you’re in need of quiet respite.
JAMES KERR (Scorpion Dagger, scorpiondagger.tumblr.com) is known as Scorpion Dagger, and he makes .GIF files of early medieval princes eating pizza, smoking cigs and reenacting the pottery wheel scene from Ghost. He gets flown to .GIF conferences and just wrote off a fifteen minute hangout with Iggy Pop as a biz expense.
DREW DEMERS (VMC, the Famines, etc.) is an electric mercenary, testing video games in the magma cavern level of a downtown highrise daily. He battles lizard men (real and imagined), has become a boss (real and imagined), and kills bugs with the Hammer of Ragnarr.
